The Dialogue Series
Hi, fellow Bloggers in the Blogosphere. It’s Debby Denham here again with an update about my life. Thank you so much for joining me on my healing journey and great many thanks for your wonderful replies to my posts. Be sure to keep them coming. I know my last one may have been a little triggering, but I feel it was what I needed to say, and you needed to hear. Boris, you in particular, I could relate to your story and feel you. You, too, can get through this. Really heartwarming to see all the love you people are sending me, and I feel it is really helping me in my recovery.
This week something overwhelming happened, and I cannot wait to share this with you. So, I am going to go right ahead, and get straight to the point. This week I think I became employee of the month at the cinema downtown. Of course, I cannot use the name of the place for obvious reasons, but you know the one that has the big chicken in sunglasses on the facade of the building. I am pretty sure my picture is going to be on the wall in the central hall in a couple of days with my name and a list of achievements underneath. It will then most likely stay there for the entire duration of the month February. Isn’t that neat! Let me tell you how I did this. I will walk you through my entire routine. Keep in mind that I do not even work there. This is how good I am. Wowzers!
After entering the building through the big doors, I immediately welcome myself. It feels so heartwarming that there is nobody there anymore to greet me. I do what I usually do, and I walk right over to the ticket counter. This is where I arrange the tickets. It is just me getting tickets for myself, naturally. They do not have any personnel behind the desk therefore I sell myself a ticket. The machine is really easy to use. I am being very customer friendly and, looking at the screen, I even tell myself which other films might interest me.
Then I go to the gates where I check my own ticket. You will understand that a big company like this cannot afford people to check them. The company needs to make money, and that goal would be difficult to achieve if you had to pay staff. It would be insane to have real humans do that anyway as a digital scanner will do just as well. Who needs people these days!? After going through the gates, I point myself into the right direction. I was doing really great so far. Absolutely no complaints about me.
Upstairs, they have this big hall with snacks and drinks. It is much like the walk-in closet one has always wanted to have. Maybe more like an eternally, fully stacked pantry. I help myself to a medium popcorn and a soda. There are quite some people there and it goes without saying that I am not talking about members of staff. Well, they are also there, naturally, but they are hidden away behind a wall of popcorn making sure the shelves are stacked. You can’t have an empty pantry, now, can you? It would be folly to have those people walk around and help the customers, too, or greet them in any way. I am perfectly capable of being very helpful to myself and I am sure most who come here are.
Next, I have to pay for my stuff. So, I scan the drink and popcorn, give myself a member discount – more about this later – and smile at my reflection in the screen. I am really doing a great job here and I think it is the best service I have ever gotten anywhere. Thinking about how great a job I am doing, makes me smile even more. I tip myself as I am so pleased with my own friendliness and the service I am providing. The staff, I am sure, must be really happy with me, too, as nobody comes over to see how I am doing or to check whether I have really scanned all the items or even to see if I actually pay for everything. It must be so easy for people to just walk right on through without paying, but not me. I am a good citizen. In any case, they must save so much money on staff they are not hiring that they can afford people to just leave without paying.
During the film, I see lots of people engaged in enthusiastic conversations on their phones. The lights of their screens are like torches in a darkened forest. They must be having really interesting talks as they are not paying attention to the film. Halfway through, some kids barge in making loud noises. I am sure they are just a little late what with the weather being so bad and all. They do not bother to look for their seats and just sit down in the front row while laughing loudly and talking to each other; really having a great time.
Outside the viewing room, a really dorky guy is holding a bag for customers to throw their rubbish in. This seems, as you will understand, pretty pointless to me, because everybody knows you can just leave your leftovers on the seats or throw it all over the floor. Why should you strain yourself by taking your rubbish with you to the exit just to throw it in a bag. Either the room will be cleaned by someone, or the mice will eat the food that is left. Anyhow, he has the audacity to say goodbye to me. Being who I am, I wish him a pleasant evening. You will understand that this in-depth conversation totally drained my social battery and I have to sit down for half an hour to recover from this tête-à-tête.
When I leave the building, I say goodbye to myself and tell myself that I hope to see me again here sometime soon. Overall, this was a really good experience. To top it off, I rate myself five stars and go home knowing that I am doing such a good job sponsoring the owners. I am probably one of their best employees and it only costs me about 30 euros a month to work there.
Keep in mind, good people from the blogosphere, that You, too, could be one of their sponsors for even as little as 10 euros a month. Naturally, with what you are getting (a discount with every purchase), you will want to go the full monty with this, so my advice would be to become a gold member. With this money they could even get rid of the people who are now stacking the shelves. Who knows, within a year or two, they could even get rid of the dorky kid with the rubbish bag. That would really make it a much better place for me, as you know how socially awkward I am.
If you happen to be there next month, be sure to look out for a picture of me as employee of the month. I might post a picture of it on here if I get the chance. Thanks for reading my story and sticking with me through these difficult times. Your support really means a lot me, people. Take care now. Bye bye then.
